Nestled on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, (an area the locals call “the country”) is the small, but beautiful campus of Brigham Young University–Hawaii. BYU–H provides college education to around 2500 students, the overwhelming majority of which are Pacific Islanders and African nationals. Having such a diverse student body inherently has its challenges: not the least of which are vast cultural differences and a limited understanding of western civilization.

The Barbara Barrington Jone Family Foundation joins with Enactus (formerly Students In Free Enterprise) and BYU–H to conduct an annual business seminar that helps prepare students for careers in the western business environment. The 3 day seminar consists of 10 workshops ranging from personal hygiene to communication and networking skills. Those who complete the workshops are eligible for a summer internship on the U.S. mainland.
We worked closely with the impressive student planning committee that planned and produced the entire event. We advised and assisted in choosing a theme. We then designed all of the elements for the seminar. A new logo, all of the promotional posters, banners, programs, menus, etiquette guides, signage, stamp card, rubber stamp, name tags, tickets, certificates, handouts, a surfboard with the logo on it... even a water bottle label!
Design complete and elements produced, it was time to head to Hawaii to assist in logistics. We were called upon to provide analysis of the event and consult on improving the experience for the students and professional presenters.
